About SLM Cycle Transport

We are based in Lanarkshire, Scotland and are ideally placed for the main motorway routes such as the M8, M73/M80/M9 & M74 allowing us to reach all areas of Scotland and the north of England efficiently.

We set up SLM Cycle Transport after struggling to find someone to bring us back from Ullapool to Glasgow at the end of a cycling tour of the Outer Hebrides that we had organised for a group of friends. We really felt there was a need for a service operating out of Central Scotland and we wished to meet that need.

FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions which we hope provides some further information on what we offer:

1. What services can SLM Cycle Transport provide?

We offer the facility to transport up to 7 cyclists and their bikes from wherever they are and drop them off wherever they require. We are happy to also pick up any luggage/panniers if it is a longer trip. For longer tours we can also provide a full support service where, each day, we transfer your luggage to the next overnight stop, meet you for lunch or coffee stops and act as a ‘sweep up’ service in the event of any problems along your planned route.

Our goal is to provide you with a reliable bespoke transport service that will make your outing more comfortable and enjoyable.

We are also happy to provide a minibus service for up to 7 passengers for other similar activities such as golfing, hillwalking, rambling etc.

2. Where do SLM Cycle Transport operate?

We are based in Lanarkshire which has close links to most of the major motorways in Scotland. We are happy to transport you to anywhere in Scotland and the North of England although we are obviously happy to discuss any requirement outside of that area.

3. Why should I use SLM Cycle Transport?

We are a small cyclist focused business providing a personal service to our customers. We will always do our very best to provide you with a safe, efficient and reliable cycle transport service tailored to suit your needs.

4. Why should I not just use Public Transport?

Public Transport is definitely an option for cyclists, trains probably more so than buses but there can be issues getting your bikes onto trains, particularly if you have not booked and there are only limited spaces available. The train times may not fit exactly with your expected arrival and departure times, requiring you to perhaps stay an extra night or adjust your plans accordingly. Similarly, given the rural nature of Scotland, your preferred start/end location may have limited public transport. If you contact us for a quote and we believe that Public Transport could meet your requirements then we would be happy to suggest that since it may be more cost effective for you particularly if you are cycling on your own instead of in a group.

5. Can I be dropped off one day and picked up on another day?

Absolutely, if you have a planned start and end point and wish to be dropped off at your start point one day and then perhaps picked up at your end point several days (or weeks) later then we can certainly do that.

6. Is SLM Cycle Transport insured?

The vehicle is fully insured to carry passengers under a Hire & Reward Insurance Policy with a leading UK insurer. We also carry Public Liability Insurance with a leading UK insurer.

7. Is my bike insured while being transported?

We will treat your bike with as much care as possible and as if it were our own but unfortunately, in order to keep our prices competitive, we are not able to insure your bike against damage while it is being transported. We would always recommend that your bikes are insured separately either through your own house insurance or separate cycle insurance. When loading it on the trailer or cycle rack, we welcome and encourage you to check that your bike has been safely strapped on and, if necessary, is secured with a suitable lock to the trailer or rack. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

8. How much will it cost?

The cost will very much depend on your individual requirements, how many cyclists/cycles as well as the pickup and drop off points relative to our base in Lanarkshire. The more passengers in your group means that the cost per passenger will reduce. We will always seek to be competitive. Please contact us on 07587 582679 or via our Contact Us page for a quote based on your requirements.

9. How do I book?

Contact us on 07587 582679 or via our Contact Us page with your dates, requirements including types of bikes and ask us for a quote. If you are happy to go ahead then we will ask you to confirm the booking details by email or letter and ask you for a 20% deposit with the balance to be paid on the day.

10. How do I pay?

Deposit payments can be paid directly to our bank account via your own bank or you can send a cheque. We are seeking to set up a means of electronic payment on the day but in the meantime the balance should be paid on the day by cash. Alternatively the balance can be paid into our bank account on the day. Unfortunately we cannot offer you any credit facilities.

11. What is your deposit and your refund policy?

The 20% deposit is fully refundable if you cancel more than 2 weeks in advance. If you cancel 2 weeks or less then your deposit will be retained. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

12.What happens if I need to reschedule my dates or times after I have booked?

Depending upon availability, we will seek to accommodate a change of dates at no additional cost if the notice is more than 2 weeks in advance. However if the notice is 2 weeks or less then we reserve the right to add an additional ‘late change’ fee to the original quote.

Depending upon availability, we will seek to accommodate minor adjustments to pick up/drop off times by up to 1 hour. However if the adjustment is greater than 1 hour then we reserve the right to add an additional ‘late change’ fee to the original quote.

The ‘late change’ fee will be dependent upon the notice and level of change.

Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

13. What happens if, on the day, we are delayed getting to the pickup point by a mechanical problem with a bike?

We understand that these things can happen in any cycle trip and we will do our best to accommodate or help resolve the problem by either waiting up to 1 hour or, if contacted and if possible, by driving out to collect the group at a slightly different location. As above, we do reserve the right to add an additional ‘late change’ fee to the original quote if we have to wait longer than 1 hour or the revised pick up location is significantly different. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

14. What happens if there is a problem with the vehicle or the trailer or there is a traffic delay?

Obviously some things are out of our control and if there is a mechanical problem with the minibus or the trailer which delays us getting to the agreed pick up or drop off point then we will do our best to keep you informed and, if possible, to find alternative transport for the passengers and the bikes.

If there is a delay as a result of traffic problems then we will do our best to keep you informed on the delay and the impact on the drop off or pick up time.

Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.
